“Blackbird’s Nest No. 1” Limited Edition Giclee Print

My Unexpected Bird’s Nest.

One day, upon walking into my potting shed, I was surprised to find a bunch of dry grass dumped on top of a high shelf of garden, until I realised it was the very rough beginnings of a bird’s nest. I was so excited. It was a perfect viewing height and I would be able to watch the whole process of the nest being made and hopefully some baby birds too. I was a little worried my presence in the shed might put off the nest builders. But, as I checked it, day by day, the nest started taking real shape and finally one day there was a little spotted teal-coloured egg inside. The parents had been so elusive that I had not been able to work out what type of bird had come to call my potting shed their home but now with the egg and a quick google search, I knew they were blackbirds. Over the next four weeks I was able to watch three little blackbirds change from egg to fledgling. So when it came to choosing my next watercolour to create, I decided to paint a series of watercolours, each at a different point in the nest’s journey and this is the first one in the series.
